Loy and Salapee were lovers, but a misunderstanding on a rainy night led Salapee to believe that her sister Gamlai had betrayed her. Devastated, Salapee cut ties with Gamlai, who was forced to leave home. Salapee later had a daughter, Pai, whom Loy took to the countryside, where he eventually married Gamlai.
