Guadalupe Messa Deus

Actress and educator Lupe (Guadalupe) Messa Deus built an extensive career in independent performing arts: in 1983, she performed in Eduardo Pavlovsky's El señor Galíndez with the Teatro de La Comuna (Sala de La Candela); she maintained a close bond with the Teatro Circular in productions such as Bufones, Nunca estuviste tan adorable, and Sexo en la cabeza (presented at the 2005 Porto Alegre festival); and she was part of the cast of Gente guapa, gente importante at El Tinglado. In the audiovisual and film spheres, she took part in the fiction production Vida rápida (1992) and the Uruguayan film El hombre pálido (made in 1997, directed by Duilio Borch and based on the celebrated short story of the same name by San José author Francisco "Paco" Espínola), alongside her contributions to education through the pedagogical project "Teatro en el Aula" with Ariel Caldarelli and Bettina Mondino; deeply cherished in the artistic community for her stage sensitivity and human warmth, she passed away from cancer in August 2007.
